Having carried out a few "adjustments" in the menu of my E series MFD and Quantum Radar, they now resolutely refuse to talk to each other via Wi-Fi.
Have also managed to make my VHF deaf to the outside world.
AIS receives OK and seems to TX.
Assume that the problems are related, perhaps have managed to disable the coupler/switchy thingy in the AIS/ VHF aerial.
The local Raymarine man has kindly offered his services and is coming to see me on Tuesday at some ungodly hour in the morning.
Comments welcome.

VHF/AIS adjustments shouldn't upset the Quantum, have you turned off the Wifi, are you still able to see the buttons that operate the radar, can you power up the radar on the MFD, can you see the MFD Wifi if you use your phone to scan for Wifi networks?

Sorry, no idea about the AIS of VHF but it seems very coincidental, can you change the settings back to what they were on the MFD before it all went tits up?

I was going to hardwire mine rather than use the WiFi capability until I saw the ridiculous money they wanted for the cable but, as you suggest, if it is the WiFi that's failed, it's an easy fix.

Some of the Raymarine radars are wireless only

That’s interesting.
My Quantum 1 came with wifi and wired so both were available on the same device.
The Quantum2 has the choice but not both together (eg above)
I don’t know (or remember) but maybe the Quantum 1 also came with separate wifi or wired and both would be a 3rd option in that case.
I chose WiFi because it’s more modern but no benefit that I can see other than simpler installation in some cases.
So @oldgit may or may not have this ”if all else fails” option

A nice young man from https://www.psimarine.co.uk/ which has recently opened up an office in Medway Bridge Marina, popped along to look at my E series.
After ignoring my expert and firmly held conclusions as to what was wrong, he quickly and correctly worked out what I had done to the blimming thing with my meddling and then promptly fixed it.
It involved a factory reset, some techical jiggery pokery regards the wireless magic bit and then entering all the stuff the plotter needs to know about the boat.
Touching the radar bit of the screen now results in a technicolour explosion similar to one of those Psychedelic oil projector displays once seen at Hawkwind concerts at your local Art College.
Completely baffling but looks very cool. ?
Now waiting for the bill.
