I have a Raymarine A65 Plotter with Navionics which was last updated two years ago. When stationary in the marina it shows the chart perfectly, but at some point between casting off and going to the chart table to make the first log entry, the cartography disappears, only to reappear again when the destination has been reached. It does give lat and longitude, SOG etc.
Does anyone have any insight into the cause of this problem?

Sounds like you don't have charts downloaded for part of your route. Do you have the Navionics app on your smartphone? Is it synced with your plotter? The Navionics card I have isn't big enough to hold the whole uk and I have to be careful not to full it up, which will happen if I use my phone to go look at random bits of sea (it syncs to the plotter next time they connect).

Suggest removing your chart card, plugging it into a computer, blowing away what's there and then installing just the bits of chart you need for your cruising. The computer will also tell you how much space is free on the card.

Also note there are two sets of charts: regular Navionics and Sonar Chart. It's possible you have one but not the other. The plotter menu allows you to select which one you're viewing.

The Navionics package that I bought was , I think, Navionics Gold. I was able to download an area covering Ireland, the UK and the Netherlands. It worked fine before and was used to navigate the boat from its previous home port on the south coast of Ireland to its new home, in Malahide, north of Dublin.
I have the complimentary Navionics app on a HUDL tablet, but didn't realise you could sync them. I will try to locate the card reader that I once bought, it has multiple ports and should have a port suitable for the large card that goes into the chart plotter.
P.S. note that the plotter is an A65, now obsolete, which I bought to replace the original A65, being the most cost effective solution, as I already had the chart card. It does not have any Wifi capability or any other means of being connected to an android device, AFAIK.

Navionics Gold is now Navionics Plus, but as I understand it it's basically the same package.

Raymarine have multiple generations of plotters which they call the same thing, which is unhelpful. The most recent device called an A65 is a touch screen plotter with wifi sync running Lighthouse II. It sounds like maybe you have an older one? That being the case, you'll need to plug the card into a computer and see what's what using Navionics' Chart Installer software. Perhaps your card has become corrupted?
