Raymarine A50 \'rear cover\'

Has anyone managed to find a suitable cover to tidy up the back of a Raymarine A50 chartplotter after flush mounting it to one side of the companionway (leaving the hole and back of the instrument visible in the aft cabin)?

Glue a timber rail with a small step down on the inside edge around the edge of the hole, cut a thin sheet of ply that will end up flush with the ply and screw it to the rail.
A coat of stain and varnish, or just paint and you are done.

Or:
Fibreglass over a suitably sized plastic container with rounded corners, make sure the glass is extended at the base to give you a flange to put screws through.
