My Raymarine 7002 autopilot has started to drop out of Auto mode for no apparent reason.
It seems more frequent when the AP is working hard eg sailing to windward with following sea but no error message or beep is seen or heard - I simply find the unit in Standby and the boat slowly veering off course.
For what its worth the AP compass reading doesnt tie up (out by up to 30 degrees) with either the ships magnetic compass or the GPS.
I've recently moved a large pair of metal bolt croppers away from the compass because I thought it might be affecting it but moving the croppers hasnt cured the AP heading display problem. That said it seems to much of a co-incidence to ignore ?
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Steve

I have a 7000 and I think (I'm not sure as it's a while since it did it) that it drops out if you are more than ca 30 deg off course. So I think you should check why the AP is 30 deg off from compass/GPS before trying anything else.

Cure that and it will probably work OK>
