Hi, anyone got any experience of one of these ?

Just (rashly?) acquired a 2nd hand one of these on fleabay, and looking for some advice. 2 problems:
1) Won't let me set a MMSI, unit says go to dealer
2) Although it has Internaitonal channels rather than US/Canada it doesn't seem to have M1/M2

My local dealer says he can't resolve it and suggests I return it to the seller - any other advice please ?

cheers
Alastair

Sounds like a job for - Raymarine Technical Support : 01329 246777 ;)
(Have the unit serial number ready)

My initial guess would be that it already has one programmed from a previous user and needs to be wiped and re-programmed. If your Raymarine dealer is a retail only dealer they may not be aware of how to do it, a Raymarine Service Dealer would probably be more clued-up.

Agreed, it sounds like a MMSi has already been entered and you need a service dealer to clear it. I don't know about the available channels, but you can download a manual from the Raymarine website and that will have a listing of all the channels available. I know that the Icom listings use other names for these private channels - a timely reminder for me to make a note by the cart table!

A lot of radios can only be programmed with an MMSI number once by the owner. After that they have to go back to base to be re-programmed. No idea why.

M1 is the same as Ch 37. No doubt M2 has a numerical equivalent too.

Do a google search for "raymarine mmsi reset". Several hits that look interesting. Your set may not be mentioned but the key sequence just might be the same for yours

Spoke to Raymarine on Friday and they confirmed a delear/repair centre is the only way forward on both problems.

The seller is going to get it sorted, so hopefully will be fixed eventually. At the cost quoted by Raymarine theres no point in buying 2nd hand, and just another hidden cost if acquiring a new boat

thanks for all suggestions
Alastair
