Evening.
Im looking to invest into a new plotter fish finder for an Arvor 25.

what are peoples views on the dragon fly pro 7 and the axiom 7.

I'm pushing more towards the Axiom due to being newer and more versatile with attachments. Idealy id like to go with a through hull transducer but that involves having the boat out of the water to do it.

What are the pros and cons of in-hull and through hull transducers.

We (me and my old man- more so me) are also very green to boating. I've only done my power boat lvl 2 last summer and have been out in the boat in charge about 4 times up the river Medway.

any help would be appreciated. thanks Jon

I had a Dragonfly 5 pro on my last boat. They are great bits of kit and very simple to operate. The 7 with its larger screen should be even better. The pro version is the best as you can connect it to your tablet with Navionics boating HD via wifi and and create your own sonar charts of the areas you fish. This is a brilliant feature, I found it invaluable for building up detailed pictures of banks for fishing lures on the drift.. It also allows you to send the fish finder info to your tablet with wi fish app allowing you you to display chart, sonar and down vision all at the same time. The Axiom probably does all this as well but will be dearer and I am sure the touchscreen will annoying to use with wet bait and fish slime covered hands.

Many anglers now just bed the transducer in a bed of Vaseline in the bilge. I installed a friends this way in an Arvor 215 and know of many others who have done the same on simliar boats.. It works very well, no need to cut holes etc.

Search on WSF Boat Owning and Equipment for more info if required.
