Evening all,

Looking to fit the recently purchased watermaker in the next few months and getting my head round the last few parts of the install.

The instructions do not mention having a raw water strainer before the feed pump, but thinking it may be a prudent idea.

So, where is the best place to purchase a modestly priced raw water strainer? Lots of different types inc plastic, metal etc as well as lots of varying prices! Do i need metal or will plastic (Vetus type) do?

You need a strainer. Vetus seem to be good and easy to open - not like the cheap one I am about to replace. Asap supplies is where I got my Vetus replacements.

It is very important to have a strainer before the raw water feed pump and sediment filters before the HP pump.

Mine is setup similar to this

What pump and motor setup have you? I had trouble finding a suitable low start power one (to run off Honda generator) and if I was doing it again would probably go 3 phase motor.

My feed pump is a jabsco 12VDC, the feed comes from my main water input manifold.

The HP pump id single phase 240VAC. If was was to do it again I would also go for a 3 phase motor driven from a variable frequency electronic 240VAC to 3 phase inverter so as to allow for soft starting so my generator does not take a direct on line start.
