Anyone know where I can get a replacement for the sea water strainer at the input skin fitting that serves my Volvo 2002?

It is cylindrical, about 4 1/2 inches long, 2 1/2 inches wide, in what looks like bronze kitchen sieve type metal, and attaches to a plastic screw top.

Its not in the Vetus catalogue.

Thanks

You could try calling Alladins Cave at Bursledon as they seem to have those types of bits.

Find a piece of plastic tube that a close fit inside the fitting. Drill lots of little holes in the tube and hey presto, one new strainer!

That's what my father did, and it worked a treat, even in the French canals.

Asap supplies should be able to sort you on:-01502 716993 or 08451300870

ASAP are the people ( see Stamfordian post for numbers) They are extremely helpful and efficient and offer competitive pricing. THe DIY strainer sounds a great idea, but I wouldn't risk it. There are some components I won't skimp on and that's one of them.

You need to be careful with this; I replace the strainer on my Volvo 3000 engine a couple of seasons ago, I got the part from Sowester, which is a problem now but they should not be too hard to find.
The problem was that the tube on the new strainer was larger than the old one although the strainers were the same size. drilling it out was awkward but no real problem, the new strainer and bigger tube helped water flow, the worry is if you get a new tube thats narrower.
