After completing the engine checks I started the engine. After about five minutes I realised there was no water being discharged so switched the engine off and investigated. Turns out the rubber O-ring on the raw water filter was not seated properly. After re-seating the O-ring I started the engine again and all was well. As I say the engine was run for five minutes, and the temperature gauge had barely moved. After reseating the O-ring all seemed as it should.

Here's my question. Tomorrow I was planning the last trip of the season, a short hop to Yarmouth for lunch, am I okay going ahead or should I abandon the trip and get an engineer to check the impeller etc?

Thanks.

It should be ok if run at idle but they do heat up quick. I would check and replace if needed. You don't mention what engine on my kad 44 I had an overheat due to weed and in less than 10 mins we were running again with a new impellor just to be sure.

All you need to do is check the impeller, can you do that yourself? If not, I'd suggest that it's something you really should know how to do.

Having said that, unless you revved the engine hard you'd be unlucky to have caused any damage. If you're getting the usual amount of water from the exhaust and there's no sign of overheating when you have the engine under load then I'd say you will be fine. But still check/change the impeller sometime soon, just for peace of mind.
