The overboard water tell-tale showed signs of prostate problems and then stopped alltogether. The engine temp guage rose when worked reasonably hard, but fell again during an idle period. Investigation showed a narrowing at the inlet to the gearbox and a lack of flow from the drain plug when removed. The accessable areas have been cleared, the flow has returned, and the gearbox plate remains cool, but there is still a load of crud in the lower part that I can't get out of the drain plug. The casing is Aluminium, so I have to be careful which acid I choose to clear the salt. Anyone done this already ?(the gearbox is the lowest part of the circuit and has been a 'sump' since 1978) . I have "aguafuerte, sal fumante" from a previous life but am reluctant to risk the integrity of the castings. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
