Sorry to start another thread but I figured that it would get lost in the >>>>>>
Why doesn't IPC follow in the footsteps of Emap, they used to produce 3 fishing mags every month, Sea Angler, Improve your anging and Boat angler (the best one ) Then in response to criticism of overlap and repetitive reporting, they combined all three mags, to cover all aspects of the hobby, they succeded in increasing overall circulation and dramatically improved the revenue, Whilst reducing overheads, I guess a few scales were flying around in the editorial office, but then that happens when shareholders want maximum income from minimum input ! Biggest overlap of editorial I've ever see is in Airgun World and Airgunner. The were blatently the same mag in different covers. Same tests same reviews even the same ads on the same pages. One was aimed at the younger reader the other at the more experienced shooter with just a little more field target content. The only difference was the layout of the pages and the appearence.

As long as they dont lose any sections! I, for 1, boat on the sea and up the river so i like the riverbank news section. I only get MBM cos the twice i picked up MBY they are taking the p%$$ out inland boaters (maybe i was just unlucky)

I think MBM is starting to improve, i do agree some 2nd hand boat reviews would not go amiss. (perhaps larger reports of popular crusiers)

Hi Julian,
It may be that they HAVE learnt from that exercise - Boat angler was an acceptable to reasonably good mag which I subscribed to and enjoyed. The resulting combined mag was so far down market (only really suitable for Sun or Daily Sport readers) that I asked for and was given a refund of the balance of my subscription.
I can however see a market for a boating mag aimed at the under £30k motor boat owner especially if it had a practical bias ( I would enjoy it), but I could forsee that if this was included in one of the existing mags it may put off the upper end of their existing subscribers.
