From the photo it looks as though the yacht is well to the south west of Chapman’s Pool. The high cliff behind the yacht would be Hous-tout Cliff with Chapman’s Pool on the extreme right of the picture just behind the round tip of the nearest land.
There are a lot of shallows to the west of Chapman’s Pool and some drying rocks well out. The local paper reports the yacht to be on the Kimmeridge Ledges although the majority of the Ledges are further west than the photo. These frequently catch unwary yachts out.
This stretch of coast is well sheltered in northerly winds so a trip to Chapman’s Pool would not have been unwise but care needs to be taken when arriving and departing from the west to approach from well out and not cut any corners.
All their sails are neatly furled and it looks a well found, equipped and tended yacht.
Perhaps they were anchored for shelter from the weather and dragged? (maybe they had one of those expensive ones featured in the Sailing Today anchor test)!
One thing I've found from personal experience is that it is no good depending on any branch of the media to give an accurate account of such events, which is why it's best to be reluctant about jumping in with judgemental criticism.
