A few questions regarding raster charts:

Have looked at buying CD of 20 charts from Maptech but will need 2 CDs to cover sailing area - English Channel - about £200. Is there anyware I can buy single charts or is it best to buy the charts and scan them myself? Or is there a source on the web!

If I buy ready scanned charts, how do I keep them up to date? ( I think thats answers the first question!!)

Any comments thank you

Hi,

You may want to have a look the admiralty leisure website and look at their ARCS Skipper range (Admiralty Raster Charts System). The sell individual raster charts and as part of the package you can get updates when there released i beleive. Each chart retailsl for £15.50 or they sell pre selected folios for £80 or customised ones for £100. Try this link:

You might be tempeted to go for the cheaper option of scanning you own charts but i would STRONGLY recommend that you dont do this. Quality will never be as good as from a UKHO compliant supplier and updating is a real pain.
