Hi

I mean Teak Deck not Teak Tech!

I bit the bullet and spent 3 man days sorting Grace's proud standing deck caulking. Happy with the result after a light sanding. Hope to share some pics of that as finished. I ran out of light on Day 3!

This (video) is the technique I used. Bent craft give and a Japanese chisel for the bits I could not bend the knife into.

You did well to do it in 3 days! It took me ages to trim my HR deck, but that was mainly because sloth set in after an hour or so. Knee pads are essential for this job. Looks like you may have some loose caulking; this really must be removed and replaced to prevent water getting under the teak.

One lose bit I need to do... around 6 inches in length and then a couple of 1/2 inch repairs.
Thats it.

Any caulking you see lose on the decks in the vid are bits I have sliced away!

Curious to see the sanding results. Please share.

Yes, it would be good to see the end result. When I trimmed the excess caulk and sanded the deck on my HR, I recall it was a compromise between leaving some "furrows" still showing in the teak, or alternatively removing too much of the precious wood.

Went back today to Borocal the decks, taking advantage of the dryness.
Sanding is done. I will video the result next time I am at the boat.

Yes I agree on the compromise. I really removed very little to get it flat enough for my satisfaction.

I've used the knife blade technique but I then bought a Fein mutitool for another job. Out of curiosity I tried the multitool with the knife blade attachment on the caulk. It was like chalk and cheese. You could just shave the proud caulking in a moment. Very quick and very easy. Whole deck on a 39ft Najad takes under 2 hours. It was so easy you keep looking for other bits to do it on.
