Raritan \"Compact\"

Anyone have experience or info on this toilet.I know its old,60's
There seem only to be a simple gate valve on the input pipe (open /close), unlike other toilets with two settings.I have had it apart before as it was not pumping in water,( flap valves salt build up), so I know the layout..
On pumping with valve open, the inflow is greater than the outflow,so bowl gradually fills. The way I empty it is to close the valve, pump away and it empties but pump is straining, as the side of the cylinder that pumps in is now choked off by the valve.I would have thought that as well as choking off the inlet it would also open the input side of the cylinder to the atmosphere.
Is there some other method?I replaced flap valves correctly, it has always behaved like this.

My raritan does the same as yours, i dont think there is anything wrong with it, just have to live with it, people who have used it, always comment that it is different then what they have on their boat, and think there is something not right with it.
But it has lasted quite a time on the boat, at least 25 years, i have changed the innards once and find no different, it is a sturdy piece of kit, so i put up with it ways, never let me down, with blockages etc, so it stays. Other makes don't seem to last a couple of seasons, so it will remain. hope your decision to put up with yours is the same, as a replacement might not be worth the hassle...

According to this service guide, the toilet is designed to pump out faster than it pumps in, so the water level shouldn't rise unless something's wrong. The service guide says that rising water level is due to incorrect seating of the discharge flap valve, and says that the screws holding the bits together must only be tight enough to stop leaks - tighter than that and the flap valve won't seat properly.
