One of the highlights of last Saturday was watching this yacht majestically travelling up and down the Solent. Hope she will be there this weekend!

Wasn't she stunning - especially when on a run and that huge mainsail let out - I thought at first there was a white pyramid on the water. I think it was her berthed at Ocean Village, next to Leopard, on Saturday night.

Pure Magic, and a lovely shot.

One of the reasons I'll never tire of the Solent is sights like this. Makes up for all the gibberish on Ch16

Yes she is at Ocean Village. We were sailing as part of the old gaffers festival at Yarmouth and she was sailing up and down past the entrance. We managed to sail quite near and get some photos. Can`t remember the name but she is a William Fife design. Absolutely stunning.

Unfortunately when I took my phot there was a tad too much wind for all those extra bits of white stuff up the mast (mutter mutter grumble etc) /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Nice pic, good to see her under full sail.

I had a great summer last year following the old gaffers, great bunch of people and lovely boats - perfect company. If anyone gets the chance to do the Fowey Classics and the Gaffers bit at the begining of Falmouth Week they will not be disapointed!

She's Mariquita, a 19 metre and the latest to come out of Fairlie Restorations.

Not bad, for a houseboat!

I remember her well, as I'm sure do lots of other people, as a houseboat, at Pin Mill!

Indeed I've seen a picture of her as a houseboat in the Ferry Dock at Woodbridge, in the late 40's I think.

What a wonderful sight - proof that the world is not necessarily going down hill!

Well done, all concerned with her!

Talking of ex houseboats...

...does anyone know what became of Lulworth (used to be moored in the mud at Crableck on the Hamble, next to Velsheda)? For years she was the home of - I think - the woman who owned the yard but she was taken away to be restored a few years back. I went on board a couple of times; she was very gorgeous down below.

Presumably now a rich man's plaything in the Med or W.Indies. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Doh!

I should have looked at the Fairlie Restorations site. She's in Viareggio, due to be re-launched next year.... /forums/images/icons/blush.gif

Re: fairly restored

ah. Well, the mca coding must've been ok and the fire extinguishers deployed shortly after the pic was taken.

Still no news of the lady owner though - is it just a guess that she is now "a millionaire's plaything in the med or caribbean"?

Re: fairly restored

Complete guess!

I think the lady owner died some years ago.

On reflection, it's a bit unreasonable of me to moan about her being a millionaire's plaything, since presumably that's what she was to begin with. Also better than having her rotting away in the Hamble, though she did give the place a bit of character.
