I calculate that I could motor around the world twice in my boat on 14,700 litres of diesel - some folks are not so lucky: http://www.ybw.com/news-from-yachting-boating-world/riva-dolcevita-66644
That's a misprint. It won't use 34l per mile.
Normally use about 3 litres per hour. But it could be a bit more if I was carrying 14 tonnes of fuel.
but would run out of gas for cooking and single malt Whisky.
I thought that was going to be something about cooking. Peculiar location.
At the end of my first season, I filled the tank and put about 20 litres in. On the other pump was a substantial gin palace who'd put in more like 2 tons. My "thanks very much, see you same time next year" was a little louder than was strictly necessary![]()

My wife bought five litres of petrol for the outboard from the fuel barge in Salcombe a few years ago. She apologised for the small purchase and was told not to worry. They made their money from he kids with speedboats. Daddy would give them a thousand quid for their fuel. When they'd burned it up they only had to go back and ask for more.I refuelled at Craobh last year, and to wait until a very nice chap in his BFO motorboat had finished filling up. He was very pleased to have got away with bang on a thousand litres for a week "outside" - I was was topping up with 15 litres (1/3 tank) just in case I didn't hit civilisation again for a bit. The staff at Craobh are very nice and treated us with equal friendliness,
