Range under engine

That's a misprint. It won't use 34l per mile.

MTU say "Ask your dealer" about M96 fuel consumption, but for the M94 it's listed between 63.6 and 504.6 litres per hour. 34 litres per mile at 23 kt is 391 litres per engine per hour, which is plausibly within range.

Quiet giggle, I could sail round the world twice with no diesel usage, but would run out of gas for cooking and single malt Whisky.

Motoring around the world, what a frightening thought. I do know I managed to use a whole two litres of fuel the year before last, but in fairness that did include a month cruising the Adriatic........... Actually I shouldn't be to smug, I did use about 400 litres of diesel in the car towing her down there and back!

I thought that was going to be something about cooking. Peculiar location.

I've just revisited this thread whilst enjoying a good malt aboard after relaunching for the season this morning. This gave me the best laugh for a long time - thanks. Clear skys and moon light in W Scotland tonight, bloody cold though.

At the end of my first season, I filled the tank and put about 20 litres in. On the other pump was a substantial gin palace who'd put in more like 2 tons. My "thanks very much, see you same time next year" was a little louder than was strictly necessary :D

You are mean. :)

A few years ago, our companions in a 46ish-foot Island Packet needed to refuel in Vitte (on a traffic-free island) before setting off with us across to Sweden. The bill came to about 500 euros and only after filling did they find that they couldn't pay by card, cash only. Not having enough on board, my mate walked on his replacement knee to the ATM some distance away but found that he couldn't withdraw the whole sum on his daily limit, so had to get his crew with diabetes and angina to do the round trip to make up the balance. When they passed the headland they were forced to tie alongside the coastguard cutter for formalities and were a bit grumpy when we met them again later in the day.

I refuelled at Craobh last year, and to wait until a very nice chap in his BFO motorboat had finished filling up. He was very pleased to have got away with bang on a thousand litres for a week "outside" - I was was topping up with 15 litres (1/3 tank) just in case I didn't hit civilisation again for a bit. The staff at Craobh are very nice and treated us with equal friendliness,

My wife bought five litres of petrol for the outboard from the fuel barge in Salcombe a few years ago. She apologised for the small purchase and was told not to worry. They made their money from he kids with speedboats. Daddy would give them a thousand quid for their fuel. When they'd burned it up they only had to go back and ask for more.
