Felt obliged to visit.

The Royal Temple..
and the terrace of Spoons.



Millpond on the way round, somewhat less so on the way back this morning.



OG is right at the back and as far inshore as possible in order to stay out of the tide and wind.
RNLI Inshore went out to rescue 4 very substantial adults in what looked to be very very small speed boat .
The speedboat returned under tow .....inverted ..............only the bow above water.
4 very lucky people.

Na....... always been a fan of the place, a proper old fashioned harbour and sometimes a real joy to see the inside of that harbour wall after rounding the North Foreland .
Chock full of of people who make a living or enjoy being on the water and everywhere that special fragrance of old fish and diesel only to be sniffed in a working port.
Still run by the local council despite the mania for privatisations of the past. Water Anybody.
The only folks wandering around in worrying colours of technical gear and offshore lifejackets will have had them on for good reason and not just to impress.
You can turn up in your big impressive boat but will still be told to find empty mooring and pop up to office when you have 5 mins.
No regimented corporate identity or rows of indentikit boats carefully isolated from the hoi poli and no offers of free ? nights in marinas you will never visit.

The town has a slightly down at heel feel with lots of small little eaterys serving just about every known cuisine throughout the world.



Start your day with heart destroying proper English and end with a very acceptable Italian .
To my knowlege not a single Michelin starred resturant has dared to raise its head anywhere .
Memory of some folks in full "Rastafarian " wandering along the seafront and nobody raising an eyebrow leaving a distinctive purfume in their wake and from memory it was not probably either "Brut" or Chanel No 5 ?
Worrying signs of scaffolding and skips everwhere tho .

La Magnolia; Excellent Italian food, wood fired pizza oven, great service. They used to remember us from one year to the next.

Last Friday we arrived at the Copperas around LW, combination of usual bad planning and reluctance to get up in the morning.
We had about 10 feet under the keel due to meticulous planning and the skill of the skipper or possibly pure luck (your choice).
We dream about having this much water on trips up the Allington, suspect downstairs scary depth sounder might be a foot or two out but no more.
Sometimes use the upstairs sounder as it always promises much more water to float in.

Spent the day assisting a local to hammer 7 bells out of a anchor windlass and to "assist" to track down a fault on a bow thruster.
Funny how some of us cannot keep our nose out of somebody next door with a problem.
The bowthruster problem was toggle switch and the windlass gear box bearings had seized solid.
He kindly returned my valuable collection of hammers and left with his wife , who was sharing a bottle of plonk with my wife, and bag full of windlass gearbox.
Ramsgate does of course have a Waitrose and have the shopping bag to prove it.

Shipshape is great in any circumstances, IMHO. A proper breakfast.

As for 'Spoons.......forget it's a Spoons, and just marvel in what they've done to preserve the building, and enjoy the fabulous views from the terrace.
