Every time I go into or drive past Ramsgate there's always a Border Force cutter moored at the back.

I'm just wondering why are they always there and not out patrolling the seas? Is Ramsgate frequented by that many foreign vessels that they need to be stationed there all the time?

Anyone local that can say?

I dont think they go out and "patrol" rather they respond to reports of activity in the relevant area. On a nice calm day you might see them out from very early in the morning until about noon picking up their trade in mid channel but when the west wind howls and we have waves there is not a lot for them to do so they stay in port.
