It seems that the low bringing your rain is the one bringing northerly winds down the Aegean. It has been blowing anything up to 6 or 7 for the past week. All change on Sunday it seems, almost flat calm and then back to southerlies.

I don't think Poseidon has much control over the winds, the sea is his domain. For your (unlucky) east wind you need to consult Evros (Ευρος) the Greek God of the east wind, for your west wind you need Zephyros (Ζεφυρος). They do seem to be very temperamental Gods though and I rather doubt they will know what they plan to be doing that far ahead. Perhaps you could try sacrificing a she-goat sometime nearer the time?

Thats where Ive been going wrong all these years - praying to the wrong Gods.

The last east wind I recall was early last year. We were in Vathi on Kalymnos, completely open to the east and shallow around the edges. We were awoken at 0300 to the rudder banging on the bottom and had to get out fast.
