Put this on as I new post as I dont want to get buried in the rush of each 'side' condeming the other. Picking over the rules is not of much consequence in a situation like this, it is the equivelent of lying under a truck on a zebra crossing and protesting that you are in the right!. What matters is the exercise of common sense at the time of an situation like this to avoid any kind of incident. Anomosity between sides contributes to incidents such as this, a little humility on both sides is required!.

Agreed. Surely the whole point of the rules is to try and avoid collisions. Some people it seems are using them as an excuse to have a collision and then claim it was everyone elses fault.

What an excellent summary, spot on !

I blame the sailing skipper for continuing to sail in conditions that he could not cope with, it was blowing a 4-5 which is too much for most Solent sailors, they go out in the solent, the seabreeze kicks in, a bit of a gust and they read F7 on their anemometer and think they can sail in F7 /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

If anyone reads that they will realize that I was moored up at the time the yacht hit my port side , I was exactly where the HM berthed me.

For once I agree with you - all the motorboats seem to disappear as soon as it reaches a 3.

I think I have seen more posts about conditions being too bad to motor from the Hamble to Cowes this year than any other. And why is it that you see boats bouncing up and down in Osborn Bay when their is north or east in the wind - don't they realise that it is only sheltered when the wind is south or west? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Oldgits guide to sea state.
Half fill wine flute with cheap white.
Stand wineglass on any flat surface near helm.
If any movement can be detected within glass then Rule ONE takes priority.

Rule One.It is better to in here wishing you were out there than vice versa.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
