Surely it must be dawning on the them by now that anybody with a trace of intelligence will want a boat that has a luverly large key on the dash or in fact better still two.Complaints about the lack of chandlery stands flogging cheap tat also to the fore along with whinges about the "expensive food"
The fact that the boatshow has relegated the few yachts on show to a dimly lit corner must surely indicate that MoBos are now taking over the world and that yachtpersons would prob be much happier in something that involved a mid winter boaty boot fair,a couple of mirror dingies and a mobile burger bar that does not charge extra for the red sauce.

I wondered if I'd inadvertantly (and successfully!) missed a whole section of the show! Cunning how the odd mobo was hidden amongst the yachts though (eg Spearfish) just to keep one guessing!

And only 2 or 3 stands selling reel end shanks of odd sized rope....

Mind you when Gordon dumps the derogation, perhaps we'll all be lining up at the Moody stand?

the only time you have to look at them stick thinges is when you are walking to and from the guinness stand /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

What are you all scared of,

Bit too difficult for you, having to multitask a bit, use some grey matter.

Yes, I see why you have to have nothing more complex than a wheel and lever any more and none of you would survive.

Re: What are you all scared of,

Moboing has multitasking bits too.

No keel, so if not forward, then sideways. Giving way to all the sailing boats. All of them. All of the time. Even the high performance dinghies, while navigating at 25knots, keeping an eye on engine instrumentation, making sure crew haven't gone green, trimming using tabs, trimming the outdrives, keeping a lookout for fishing line and lobster pots, and small commercial vessels that totally ignore the colregs, and insist that you give way to them despite being outside controlled waters or any TS lane...

Re: What are you all scared of,

What annoys me are cross discipline posts that seem to require everyone can do everything. This extends to RYA courses which state you should be able to handle any boat within that course level (not what I'm talking about here, but stil very difficult, as the ability to handle any powerboat of that size range covers a huge array of hulls and performance). Bolloxs.

A raggie, faced with a high performance 21' sports boat might handle it ok in open water, but putting it stern end in to an enclosed space might have a few probs as wind and tide take it all over, as it has no keel, and displays no characteristics they've ever experienced before.

They would struggle too with a 23m twin engine boat, if they haven't experienced anything of the sort before.

In between there are a lot of different options of engines and hulls, and how they handle.

Mobo's would struggle with a basic dinghy sailboat, without some prior experience, as they turn on a sixpence, and are far more manoeuvrable than most would know unless they tried.

At the other end, wash from a powerboat stifles sailing for raggie boats in low winds, as your sail collapses

Then again, some big sail boats don't really get going till there is a F6+ available.

The range of experience to knowledgeably helm all these types post is possible, though some here post as though they understand the characteristics of all
these types of boats.

Re: What are you all scared of,

Hm. That's a big bite for a small dog.

Berth a mobo in the hamble and you might be 45degrees but still going forward with raggie crews jumping about - until it slots in. Raggie boats alsways go where they are pointed. Much easier.

Bit of passage planning? Don't bring the charts up cos they blow away so if you ain't got he waypoints in we're doing 25knots whilst you're crying or trying to take a fix, aintcha?

oh lets do some sailing and wet ourselves about it. There's a few ropes but if you sailed about 100 years ago or are aged five+ you will get it in minutes. Not sure how it goes forward in headwinds? Slowly, matey, that's how.

Fact is if you are YM power they will charter you a 55 foot sailboat with no skipper, or a 50 foot saily catamaran too. But if YM sail you need a skipper for a big mobo. AND if the saily cat develops a busted engine there a good chance the mobo skipper can fix it, hm? Twice. How about a sailyboat skipper fixing one of those 700hp+ diesels, or the washing machine, or the aircon? No chance at all, unless it involves whipping line, or pencils.

Back in your basket...

Re: What are you all scared of,

grrr.

Yes my cat always travels in straight lines oh so predictably, so she does.

I could have a stab at a 700hp lump up to the same level and above as many of the mobo drivers out there. I was training to be a marine engineer after I left school but packed it in. Ask No 1 Moose. So have theory of some pretty big machinery and practical of never using mechanics unless machine shop needed.

I am pulling tongues at you, did you notice.

Am no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I do know one end of an engine from the other nearly. Not totally up to speed on turbos mind, but most engines will still run if the turbo is shot, so I could, should get you home.

Plllluuuurrrrr!

I am finding that the bait is getting easier in the Mobo room of late.

Re: What are you all scared of,

aw. i am feeling bad now.

The grim thing about being a dog is that you are at an evolutionary dead end. That's as far as you go, see. There's nothing more developed from a dog and all it can do is woof. Whereas cats have lions and cheetahs and leopards etc.

cheers anyway

Re: What are you all scared of,

Dingo's

African Wild Dogs

Hyenas (possibly)

Cats are for girls

Dogs ARE better than cats!

Re: What are you all scared of,

-African wild dogs are (i think) less developed than you and they are on their way out so no points for team S.W there.
-Dingos are sort of descended from normal dogs but they look a bit dim
-Hyenas are more cat than dog

Ahem

The point that you all seem to have missed is that LIBS is perfectly tuned for Mobo owners, big, brashy and no class.

Sails off stage left on his perfectly formed classic yacht waving two fingers at the black smoke coming out of tcm's exhaust.
