Now not being one to use marinas that often I would assume that it is fairly normal to try and ascertain the intentions of the boats on the inside on arrival or soon after.

Whilst in Camaret the other day (Saturday) my son and I were ashore nicely positioned in one of the bars with a telly to watch England go out of another competition to penalties. Our intention was to leave Camaret at 0430 on the Sunday morning to catch the tide through the Chenal du Four to head for home. After watching said match which obviously overran a bit we sauntered back to the boat to get organised and then have an early night ready for the early start but LO there is a MOBO (nothing against MOBO's by the way) rafted outside of us. Not a problem I told my son (16 just done GCSE'S hence our escape) we shall just inform them of our plans and either swop places or they may raft up to someone else. But there was nobody onboard, so we sorted the boat and decided to wait a while. Anyway after a few games of crib and another bottle of wine they still were not back and I wanted to go to bed to sleep it off, so I left a note on their cabin door and my son being a teenager who only sleeps during the day said he would wait for them. They did not return at all. At 0400 we got up had a quick wake up cuppa etc and had to shift said offending MOBO to another berth in the dark. I am not the kind of person to just slip them off and go although it did cross my mind.

Who in their right mind turns up at a marina rafts up and then swans off to a hotel or other accommodation without knowing what the boats on the inside intend to do, strikes me as being a bit thoughtless.

Lazy - getting up before 9:00 is strange?

Mobo - consider tides no more than mildly irritating?

Owner - you were in their permanent berth?

Maybe all 3 /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thoughtless yes, but he was probably relying on the goodwill that most boaters seem to have and their willingness to do the right thing by others.

I don't see the problem - all part of rafting.

You weren't there when they arrived and clearly even if they waited for a couple of hours you didn't return. They had their plans, you had yours and all that was required was that you secured their boat when you left - no big deal. Personally though, I would have done it the night before to save messing about early in the morning as with a start that early I would have wanted to be on the outside.

Was there not another raft you could have gone on the outside of when you arrived - unless there was no other option, it could be said that you were inconsiderate by going against the pontoon when you intended leaving so early.

Sorry, I missed the bit where he said he was moored against the pontoon. As to moving another's boat last thing at night, best left to the morning, but then I am a morning person!

Re reading it, they don't - admittedly an assumption on my part, although there is no mention of other boats on the inside. Perhaps I should rephrase it from pontoon to "the inside".

If they left the bar after the football we are only talking 8.30 or so and if I wanted to get my head down for an early start I would have done it then, because it is likely by that time people have gone out for the evening - I'm not a morning person and I would want to avoid disturbing other non morning persons like me unnecessarily at an ungodly hour /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I had much the same problem on returning from the footy, decided to stay /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

we were asked to move from south basin to the breakwater because 47 boats were booked in as part of a rally, this we did happily, was slightly annoyed but it soon wore off, they did absorb most of the wash though /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

They were all bavs, bens and jens

Is that an accepted issue, I can go to bed at 2, 3, 4 in the morning. but I always wake at 05:45, often completely knackered (and not too good, ask Cliff!), so what should I do, move the others at that time or wait until the morning?

Up to you, but as in my original post I still think it would be better to move a boat at 8.30 at night than 4.30 in the morning - less chance of waking other people up. If you want to see "not too good" you should see me woken up at four thirty when I was planning to sleep til nine!

No we weren't there when they arrived and it may have been a couple of hours before our return. What got me was the fact that they had a boat (29/30 ft) with ample accommodation onboard and I assumed they would be staying aboard but no they just swanned off. There were many other similar sized boats in the marina all lying single against the pontoon my only thought is that we were selected because being a cat we are regarded as another pontoon. Now I don't mind rafting up or being rafted against but I cannot understand why he or she just left the boat and disappeared I was in a visitors berth not a permanent resident. I would have happily swapped places the night before but I was not about to do it two handed in a tight spot so I decided to wait for their return, not so unfair I think.
We had been there for a couple of nights it was not particularly busy for a weekend in Camaret and there were other spaces/places for him/her to raft or go alongside.
So no I do not think I was being inconsiderate by going alongside at all in the circumstances.
