I have a small intermittent problem with my DSC radio and I've lost my HH VHF. Instead of buying a new HH I'm considering a new DSC with command mike at the wheel. Are there any suggestions for a good package at a reasonable price?

I've just bought a Standard Horizon Matrix AIS GX2100E and a RAM3 CMP30 Remote Microphone. Not installed it yet, but you can't beat it for specifications and price when you consider you also get AIS receive.

I too have just fitted standard horizon. Because I already have AIS I have bought the cheaper gx1500 and the 2nd station ram 3. At least a £100 cheaper than the competition and I am so far, very impressed. Feeding the cable from the chart table to the cockpit was
a pig though. I ended up cutting the cable because the plugs were too big to fit through the trunking and then soldering them back together. Have fun. Alan

Happy with my 2100e and ram mic but 2 notes:
Initially had trouble with nmea data into the unit. Solved by providing its own gps unit. I believe my data stream contained certain messages which confused it. When they were filtered out there was not a problem. SH had not met this condition before.
Remote mic is good but poor quality Tx can be difficult to understand as the handset mic is a little underpowered for outdoor use.
Generally the AiS is useful on the handset but mainly to check on an individual target rather than an overview of the area.
Fanastic DSC options if only more people were interested.....

I have a Standard Horizon and its great. Mine is the old model with a remote mic, but i got it complete for £150 at the Boat Show a few years ago.

Try online - but this was one deal where the Boat Show beat online prices. And its not long to wait now!

It's pretty clear from this forum that both Icom and Standard Horizon make very good kit. I personally have had the Icom 505 with a command mike for a few years and am very happy with it. It really comes down to personal preference and which is offering the best deal.
