Hi all,

I don't know if anyone has any experience with these VHFs - I bought it from my local Force 4 on Friday, and it (being French) came with a two pin charger. I've tried it with various converting plugs/shaver sockets, and seem to have got nowhere, but then I don't really know how I would know if it was charging or not. Nothing seems to happen when I plug it in, at least.

Does anyone have one? Can anyone offer any advice?

Cheers

Charging indicator on the RH side of the screen ??

No charging indicator is visible. I wondered if it would be 'mobile phone' style - that is, it would cycle up through the battery blocks in a 'topping up' fashion, but it doesn't do anything, and no other charging indicator is visible..?

I was looking at the picture on Force4's website. Looks like a mobile phone state of charge/charging indicator ... No?

The instructions really don't say anything useful regarding charging - other than charge it switched off (I think - it says, "Turn the power OFF during the load," and I presume by 'load' it means 'charge'..?). In fairness, I hadn't tried to charge it switched off and will try that now. It all seems a bit odd, though...

Can you check the ouput from the charger with a multimeter.

If it has not been supplied with a mains plug that fits a UK socket I think I would go back and complain

Just a thought - my little ICOM only charges when it needs to, which seems not to be very often though it doesnt get a lot of use. I thought the charger was faulty until the battery had depleted enough to need a charge!

I bought one of these from F4 Chi and it came with the UK standard 3 pin charger.

Yes, it is a bit strange that the battery indicator doesn't pulse when charging. The instructions do suggest a maximum charge time so you don't damage the batteries.

You can also buy 12v lighter charger for extra £10

However, despite its little quirks it seems to work very well.

I post this purely in the sake of completeness, just in case anyone else in the futuremay find it useful.

After charging it fully the night before, the batteries included had run out by three hours of standby on the following day.

Force 4 were very good about - I don't think it was the first one they'd had back - and I upgraded to the Midland Pacific, which is better in every way...
