Get large piece of A3 card. Roll it from one coner across to the middle of the other side until a neat cone is formed THEN SHOUT through it! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

There was a discussion on this last year and now you can get some with ear piece and microphones from Motorola I think or get one of those night club security guard systems.

I've got a pair. They are more useful for talking from anchored boat to shore party or boat to shopping party but they are quite handy. Some come with voice activated Hands free kit but you always seem to miss the first part of the transmission with mine.

All in all I would say a handy piece of kit & quite cheap to buy but make sure you get the recharchrgeable ones.

Useful for when one lot of people are on the boat and the other lot are on shore, or in the shop, or in the pub.

Cheaper than a mobile phone. And you can buy the batteries cheaply in the Pound Shop. They seem to transmit a good distance too.

Bought my pair for £35 in Heathrow Duty Free.

I was able to talk to the crew from the flybridge of my Fleming. It may be bigger than your old boat, but everything happens a lot more slowly ( or it should! ) and you can walk to each side and talk, no problem. We had fixed routines for the different berthing problems that you meet and my crew of 1 i.e SHMBO was fine.
You will be suprised how easy it is if do not rush, its a lot different than with lightweight planing boats.

Yes, I have found them v useful in some circs. Eg a charter boat, stern to mooring using the anchor, helmsman needs to be able to speak to the person at the anchor, and in a sailboat you can be 45 feet away with a mast in the way, so no chance of shouting

I have only used the little walkie talkie types. I've also seen peeps use the headset ones from Tandy, but not tried em myself. Their adavntage I presume is you have both hands free
