This could be boaty ...

I need to find a radio which can be switched on to Radio 4 by working an on-off switch. On-off-volume is too complicated: it must have a switch which, when operated, produces Radio 4. In a boaty world it might be on a time switch for shipping forecasts ... I actually want it for an elderly relative in hospital who cannot cope with anything more complicated than a single switch - I'll cover, lock out or glue up any others if necessary.

Any bright ideas? FM, LW or DAB would all be fine, but IP isn't.

Add a simple on/off switch to the battery circuit of a portable radio? Superglue the tuning and volume knobs in position?

That's an interesting idea. It would have to be one with digital tuning, I think, so it good be locked on station ... any suggestions for a suitable target for my soldering iron would also be appreciated. The ideal would be to end up with a black box with a big on-off switch and a headphone socket. Maybe a "loud/quiet" toggle switch too - a continuously variable volume control would definitely be too much.

My Roberts DAB radio is tuned to R4. It will go up and down stations if I press the little buttons but will only turn on and off if I press the big button.

It will also do a sleep thing if I press 2 little buttons.

I'm assuming that having big buttons and little buttons isn't foolproof enough for your application.

That sounds 100% what the OP is looking for. And, there seems to be a market for this cut down functionality radio, perhaps not surprising with an aging population. It does seem a bit expensive, though, for them to charge £100 for a radio with a plastic box on it. Exploitative?

Perhaps the easiest answer for the OP is to get a remote control power on/off switch. Most radios switch on at the same volume and tuning as when they were switched off. So, all you need to buy is a power switch with a remote control that the radio is connected to. I can't imagine that there will be a cheaper option. The user of the radio, then only has to deal with the remote control on/off button and can ignore the radio, itself.
