I sold my old Raymarine c80 with a pat finder radar 2 months ago. When I removed it from the boat it was working perfectly. The buyer has just been on the phone and seems to be having a problem. The display is only showing the rings. He accepts it may be something he has done, or not done.
Firstly he is trying it out without the top cover on, the radar is going round, but there is no line that rotates around the screen. Secondly he has not installed the the GPS to the plotter. Could either of these things be the problem?

When you say "No line that rotates round the screen" Do you mean the "Sweep" if so sound like it is not transmitting./ receiving. Check all the connections and anything that has been touched/cut/joined etc.

Thanks, by the sound of it I think he means the sweep.
Before I sold it I removed all the cables without cutting anything so there should be no reason for the buyer to have cut anything. However If he phones again I will ask him. Would running it without the top half bolted on make a difference.

Good point about top half. I assume you mean cover? Just a remote possibility that there is a safety cutout activated by this?

Yes the cover. Pathfinder is a sealed unit that comes in two halves which bolt together. He said he hadn't put the top half back on that's how he could see the scanner going round. Obviously doesn't value his wedding tackle.

If the scanner is connected to the display you can see it going round! Might be an idea to put the cover on. Won't help his gonads though if at that level!

Indeed you can, he said the icon on the plotter screen was spinning.
He may have been sitting on it, like a merry go round.
