Radar Problems

Any electronics experts out there? My radar is still misbehaving. It switches on OK and powers up but when it transmits I just get a saturated green sweep around the display with no targets visible. Is it the end? Can it be repaired? It is an Apelco AR16 model so fairly old. Anyone had a similar problem?

If you use the controls eg Gain or Clutter does that have any effect at all?

No change when adjusting gain or clutter. Are these things voltage sensitive because the batteries may be a bit flat as we haven't launched yet - just a thought?

Not sure about that, but certainly I would try with full volts as your next step.

Following that I'd try some quality electronic switch /contact cleaner on the control pots.

YES radar is sensative to power in. All radars old and new will require a minimum of 12.2V or approx 2amps although they usually draw up to 5-7amps

Hi,it sounds as though it COULD be the magnetron,I have just gone through something v.similiar and replaced it,works again perfectly.mine is a Furuno,cost of magnetron approx.£300.
