Evening All,
I am looking for a Radar Plotting Sheet Template, now that I sort of understand how it works.
Lynn thinks I should use it, or get out more.

Please help.

While there is no manoeuvring board template in it (does have an illustration of one though which could be blown up perhaps) this has alot about their use http://pollux.nss.nima.mil/pubs/pubs_j_show_sections.html?dpath=RNM&ptid=10&rid=244 (is a big file if one does not have broadband). If the link craps out look on the site for Radar Navigation and Maneuvering Board Manual - Pub. 1310.

While it is oriented at big ships and covers alot of ground, there is much useful information in it which is easily sorted from the not so relevant. At very least, knowledgeable nods while reading it is likely to impress any SWMBO /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Re: HOW MUCH ?????

Nigel

The one I have is the one which costs $20.99 (about £11) but is a wipeclean plastic board and comes with a set of compasses as well. A pad of 50 paper ones at £3.50 isn't too bad at 7p each either when a pad would last most folks a sailing lifetime! I don't mind a bit of work to save £20 but for a few measly quid I'll buy it off the shelf! Meany... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thank you all for your pointers. Being terminally poor now, I am going to photocopy them (on recycled paper I might add!) for nowt.
I am sure the plastic last forever ones are stunning value eventually, but if I don't keep up my quota of stolen stationery along with all my other co-workers, there will be an embarassing hole in the loss side of the business, which has existed since stationery was invented.
Nigel Luthers advice of clean sheets of paper later drwan on manually would deprive the Xerox bloke his regular visit, whilst increasing my visit to the RSI clinic for overcooking the circle drawing exercises.

Cheers

Jim

Just a thought - if you print out the plotting sheet onto an overhead projector transparency, then laminate it, you will end up with a see-through-and-last-forever version for nothing.

(Must be plenty of OHP transparencies kicking around - nobody uses them any more!)

Neil,
The laminating machine is jealously guarded by an Accounts Harpy, who is probably a descendant of Medusa, or even a female Cerbera. She needs 3 heads anyway. Best not prodded in case she has another pencil counting exercise, or goes round switching the lights off again. In theory, I have sway over the use of department efficiency equipment, but some battles are best left for another day. Ditto the spiral binding wotsit.

The Mayday thingy is a sticky one with the full distress call instruction as provided free by MCGA when you fill in a CG66, in wipe clean, sticky backed A5 format. Slapped up on the nearest flat surface to the VHF, like ordure to a bed covering.

Now I need to search for the "win a radar" competition /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The rather bright ould guy who invented and markets the excellent Sea-Me radar transponder has just produced a good radar plotting device, which looks better and more useful than t'other stuff I've seen and used.

And I've used a few.

So look this up, I suggest, and consider whether this will not meet the need, 'cos there are more like 'P&O Nedlloyd Vespucci' out there, doing 27 knots through the fog. We all need to know better........
