I have read reports on an American site about a backstay mounting for the radar randome. Does anyone have experience of mounting the randome on the backstay?

I was interested as an alternative to a pole of randome on the mast. I had not seen anything about this type of mounting.

New Hallberg Rassys fitted with Raymarine radar seem to have a gimballed radar linked to the backstay, see

Is that a Waltz system?

The pic looks as if it's a Waltz Radar Levelling System, which are quite popular in the US.

Re: Is that a Waltz system?

No idea, but it looks like a good arrangement. Doesn't look as though much weight is taken by the backstay. I guess the gimbal is well damped, otherwise the radar would be swinging all over.
