I obviously understand that a boat fitted with a VHF/DSC needs a licence but the RYA site that covers boating abroad tells me '' Ship Radio Licence
Under the International Radio Regulations a UK registered vessel must have a Ship Radio Licence if it is to install or use radio equipment (including a VHF or DSC radio, radar , Active Radar Target Enhancer, EPIRB, PLB etc). This also applies to vessels predominantly moored in UK waters (including craft which are not registered). The licence, which details the equipment covered, must be carried onboard''
Is it common knowledge that a radar licence is required even for UK waters? If so I was totally unaware, as was the previous owner of my boat who had the radar fitted. Ooops.

I can't imagine that there would be many, if any, people who would have a radar fitted without a VHF, so, as Craig says, it should just be a matter of ticking the right boxes, with no additional cost.

Got it ! Haven't yet applied for new DSC licence so was unaware that the box for radar existed. Easy when you know how. Many thanks. Steve.

It was the same on the old non-dsc license. In fact the license hasnt really altered much.
