Hi there I need to acquire a connector for a Radar cable. The cable is to be cut below deck to enable stepping the mast. The inter-connecting cable from Screen to scanner is in one piece, and I thought of using a connector to make things a little easier when removing the mast. Can anyone recommend a suitable M/F waterproof connector for Raymarine 14 pin type cabling. Cheers

Datayacht in lymington might be able to sort out a connector for you if you really want to go down the connector route-will be expensive though (60-70 quid when I asked) and really not better than a chocolate box connector-just a bit quicker/easier to undo.

Invariably, mast base plugs and sockets will fail within a couple of seasons. A decent deck gland, cable loop and a below deck junction will survive far better and still allow mast stepping etc.

Just use standard block connector mounted in a waterproof (IP66) box, with a couple of cable glands for cable entry and exit.
All should be available from maplin, cpc or RS.
The thinner wires are data for the stepper motor, the larger cables are power,
and the screened cables are for Video.
It is important that you join both the inners and screens correctly, as these are the cables that will suffer gain loss if done incorrectly.
It's quite a simple job, Ive done it on several boats with no ill effects.

thank's for the advice, it seem's that the standard block connector will do the trick when joining the wires up. My another concern is that there is 8 radar wires, and 4 power wires fo voltage drop which is then shielded by a steel braid and then insulated in a plastic covering, when cutting the cable do i have to connect the steel braiding which I imagine is for RF grounding up again to another end of the cable?
