Wondering if anyone can help with the following:
I have a solid silver beer tankard with a lid and ornate handle with ivory in it. Engraved on the front is LRC (not sure about the 'L') and Fall Regatta, Sept 6, 1890, Class VII, won by 'Kathleen'.
This came to me through my Grandmother who received it from a Miss Mann who she worked for.
Looking up LYC on the web gives me Liverpool Yacht Club, formed in 1988 and a couple of American and Canadian yacht clubs which do not have any information about this particular date or yacht.
The Mann family were wealthy and this could indicate that the yacht club was not in the UK.
I also think that the word 'fall' could indicate somewhere across the pond because in those days I think autumn would have been used here.
Anyone got any ideas how I could investigate this further?

Think you need to clarify your question. Does the tankard say "LRC" as in your post title and your description of the tankard, or does it say "LYC" which is what you say you've searched for?

RC most likely stands for Rowing Club. Rowing was a huge pastime in the 1890s: just look at any photos or paintings of the period, to see how busy the rivers were with ro-bos.

If your tankard says LYC not LBC it is very likely the Larchmont Yacht Club. New York.

On 7th Sept 1890, The New York Times reported on the LYC Fall regatta the previous day. 'Kathleen' was in class 7 and was reported as probable winner. See: New York Times - 7th Sept 1890

If this is same yacht, which seems very likely, she was an 1889 thirty-foot cutter owned by William Whitlock and designed by William Gardner.

Another interesting reference from NY Times archives

My Mistake. Should have been LYC amd not LRC.
Thanks for all the information Geoid. I will try to follow through on the information about Larchmont Yacht Club.
