Racing marks. Ours keep disappearing. If we leave them out over night they get stolen. The whole lot goes, anchor, warp, buoy and chain. Others have simply drifted away or sunk.
We would like to put a more permanent marker down. Big concrete block with chain etc. making sure they are not in the harbour approach of course.
However, not sure of the rules. Can we do it or do we have to get permission from the authorities?

If you do put down a permanent buoy would you please consider lighting it? I always worry when sailing in daylight past the steel racing marks used on the Solent because they are not lit and a cruising boat sailing at night could be harmed by hitting one.

We intended to use one of the very big plastic buoy fenders and make sure it could not disappear. Didnt think it would need a light. I have ever seen a racing mark with a light on it. Not in the north Irish Sea that is.

Absolutely! Also please do not place the directly on straight line tracks from place to place ie Poole Bay straight track Poole to North Head, steel open framed buoy, not lit, could easily be 500yds north. Either that or PLEASE use inflatable or soft plastic buoys rather than steel, and NO I haven't hit one (yet) but have had a few near misses!
