OK then, Powerskipper, just to show that we are capable of a sensible conversation in Beurla [English to you]. Sail up Loch Fyne to Inveraray. Go ashore. Go to the George Hotel. When I was last there, a very attractive Australian lady served my lovely Swedish wife and myself some of the best cod and chips we have ever tasted, along with some excellent real ale. I then had a glass of 25 year old Macallan. Until you have drunk 25 year old Macallan you have not lived. As I write this, I take a sip of a 15 year old Glenlivet, which is more than adequate, but perhaps not quite in the same league as the quarter-century Macallan. Then fall on your knees and thank the Almighty that he deigned to create Scotland, which makes up for His sad error in creating England. Mind you, when I think about Somerset cider, Cornish pasties and Eccles cakes, I realise that the Lord works in mysterous ways, His wonders to perform, and perhaps England does have a few saving graces after all.

Bithibh tighinn leatha! [Ready about!]

Awa an bile yer heids, ye Sassenach nyaffs [We really do like our Southern neighbours]

He is right you know . One can get quite addicted to a good whisky. My favourites are Edradour and Dalwhinnie . I take them neat absorbing the nectar through my gums I acquired this habit some years ago when I was marooned in Dornoch over a long weekend with a lot of rampant golf widdows . I had toothache at the time and there wasn't an open dentists surgery in sight.

I now have to hide my good whisky from my English son in law who gulps it down like beer . I have however got him weaned on neat sticky 15 year old Drambui . I acquired a lot of bottles of this drink at various duty free airports over the years and they are taking up too much space in my store

On reflection, I am surprised at how fair to Inveraray I was in my previous post. For Clan reasons, I have no love for the Campbells of Inveraray and Argyll. We lost the flower of our men at Culloden in 1746, fighting bravely against overwhelming odds in the last stand for Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Stuart cause, while the evil Campbells fought on the side of the English for the German king.

Ah, the battle-cry of Clan Donnachaidh, 'Garg'n uair dhuis gear' - Fierce when roused!

Alba gu bradh!
Scotland for ever!

Funnily enough, I perchanced to visit The Grill bar on Union St. in Aberdeen last night, for the first time. Not only was it like a step back in time to the 30's, but a most venerable collection of malts was to be found there, including a 30yo Macallan, and also a 1940 Macallan at £50 a nip. Also one of the few bars i've come across selling Superstition. A fine selection of good rum was to be had also.

Ah, a true connoisseur of this type of establishment surfaces. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Hi Gordon, yes I believe a recent addition to the premises in question, was a ladies convenience. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Och for shame on you and your political geography. Somerset, yes; Eccles, yes; but Cornwall for goodness sake - that's not in England! Cornwall's in Cornwall!

Nickel [of Penzance]

Hi Claysie, yes i enjoy it too. I have at home, a bottle of 10yo, a bottle of Superstition, a 1984, and a litre of Legacy which I think may be export only.
A Jura fan as you can see. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
