At 1720 today Race HQ reports that the bulk of the fleet - some 1,000 boats - are between Ryde and Bembridge.

As I watch there's a mega-size container ship ploughing through the Forts closely followed by a car carrier and Brittany Ferries coming into Pompey.

Might is right!

Just watched two cruise ships leave Southampton too. Wonder what it was like at the Needles at 10am this morning?

No probs this morning, tho there wasn't much breeze around midday I hear. The Needles log jam was in '06; I was there and survived to finish - 175th as I recall.

Today's snarl-up was at Bembridge Ledge when another unpredicted calm patch found most of the fleet struggling against the last of the flood.

Latest report is 14 yachts aground on Ryde Sands - what an opportunity for an entrepreneur with a portacabin and a few crates of beer!

.

For a large ship, anything inwards from the Nab would rank as a narrow channel imho.
Most of the yachts will want to be out of the deep water anyway, as the log jams tend to occur where the tide is adverse.
Were there any conflicts?

We had a great sail today, ok there were the requisite number of mistakes and Bembridge was a bit of a nightmare, which we somehow managed to work our way through. Everything from 22knots around the back of the island to zero; but a great result for us.
