I am thinking about treating myself to a new genoa. I have had quotes from a number of sail makers- what I would call "premium" lofts like Gowan and Dolphin all of which were pretty close and one from Jeckells which was 20% less. On price, Jeckells have it, but will it be such a good sail? How can I decide?

Gowen and Dolphin are the same company. My experience last year has left a bad taste.
Try Quantum/Parker and Kay. Don't know about Jeckells.

Depends entirely what you want, and get your spec from them in writing as part of their quote.

Sails

I've had sails from Doyle for the last 9 years and have no complaints at all.
The sails have all been supplied on time, to spec. and to the agreed price.
They have proved to be hard wearing and have kept their shape well.

I plumped for an Elvstrom genoa. One of their genesis technology sails. Only a couple of hundred more for a high tech sail that really does seem to perform well.
