Hi,
I would appreciate any opinions or experience you may have of the Quicksilver Weekend 750.
I am in the market for a new 7m - 8m weekend cruiser. The Quicksilver seems reasonable value and is specified as catergory B.

I Would also consider the Beneteau Antares 760 or 8m, however with all the extras added they are much more expensive.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 4 year old 650 Weekend, which is outboard powered. The finish is basic, it is not a luxury boat, but the build quality seems to be there, soundly put together and behaves well. It is my first mobo, and it does what it says on the tin. I am sure that the Beneteau and Jeanneau equivalents will offer more refinement and comfort, it really depends on where you want to put your dollars, size or refinement.

RCD catagory means very little - it doesnt speak to the finish of the boat nor is it a guarantee that it will handle a sea well etc etc.

You are much better off assessing a boats ability through seatrials and the experience of owners such a Neddie above.

If that is what tickles my fancy next time around - yes. I'm happy that my boat does what it is supposed to do and represents decent value for money in the context of similar boats. I and Mrs. Seagoon are happy that we bought it, so I see no reason why I wouldn't buy another.

But buying a 750 would represent a significant upgrade, so my parameters would have changed. If I were to be buying in the same 6.5meter class again I would be happy buying the Quicksilver again. HTH

Thanks again for your comments.

I have had a brief sea trial in the 750 and a neighbours Arvor 230. I previously owned a 5m Rib and the experience was different but enjoyable.
I will try to arrange a trial in the Beneteau 760 for a comparison.

have you looked at the merry fisher 725 and the 705, the 725 is an outboard, looked at it at libs and was surprised at the room,
cost isnt to bad either ,705 is inboard with enough space, sessa also do some nice fast fisher,s

Take a look at the Merryfisher 705 (inboard eng) or even an 805. Also the small Rodmans are nice though pricey. My 635 MF is excellent and well finished - recommend one to anyone (as long as you dont mind cruising 14/15 knots!) The later MFs have more HP and cruise at faster speeds.

We took delivery of a 2008MY 640 Weekender with 115hp OB in March.
We looked at some older Quicksilvers - the finish on our new boat is much better.
We looked at Merry Fisher & Jeaneau equivalents thinking these would be of a higher quality - we were wrong, a poorer design, worse finish and a lot more expensive.

We are very happy with out boat, a fantastic craft, and very nippy too (32mph on the GPS /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif)

Boatingmania were our supplier - fantastic service, highly recommended.

Back in 2003 when I first decided to buy a boat, I looked at all the peche promenades, including the Merry Fisher, Antares, Rodman, Quicksilver and others.

Top of the tree was the Jeanneau Merry Fisher, with its sister ship the Beneteau Antares following up, but with a more basic fit out. I went for the Antares, because it was cheaper.

At the time the other boats were very basic and the finish was frankly poor.

Last year I inspected the Quicksilver 700 at ABC Marine, Anglesey and was astounded by the huge advance in finish and style. I understand they handle well.
