Quicksilver 'Perfect Seal'

Anyone care to comment on what this stuff is ? I'm re-installing the exhaust manifold elbow risers on the trusty Mercruiser 5.7 V8, new gaskets, manual says coat with this stuff which is not easy to find. Is a sealant a good idea when using a new gasket on clean flat surfaces ? (I would have thought not but I don't want to risk any sort of water ingress down into the exhaust valves .. )

Thankfully VF snug at home, taken off W'mere a week before the floods ...

We use it or silicone on these gaskets to take of any differential expansion, as there are several different ways Mercruiser connect the plumbing to cool manifolds and risers.
