Hello, I'm writing from Greece
I have got a quicksilver 640 pilothouse with mercury 115HP 2-stroke carburetors. When wave's height is
20 cm only, and the boat's speed is higher than 17 knots, there are seawaters (much more spray) on windscreen, so that I use the wiper continuously.
Has anyone got the same boat with the same problem? Let me know which is the horsepower of outboard engine and the propeller's characteristics. Is the engine in the lowest position on the boat?
Thanks.

Hi Nikous,
It seems that perhaps you have either :-
1) Too much weight towards the front of the boat, or
2) The trim on the outboard engine too far in. Try trimming the engine out to see if that makes things better.

I have had this problem on previous boats and correcting one or both of the above cured the problem.

Welcome to the forum.
John.

Thanks a lot John
I tried trimming the engine out, but the improvement is minimum.
Do you know how I can grow up the trim’s corner? Maybe using stainless steel propeller?

Nikos

Hi,
Sorry Nikous but I can't think of anything else that will help, unless you have simply got too much weight in the boat.
At 17+ kts the boat should be fully on the plane and using the engine trim should make a big difference to how the boat rides - bow up or bow down. Are you certain that it is working properly?
Is there a Quiksilver dealer that you can talk to and ask the same question that you asked here.

We changed from an aluminium prop to a SS one and whilst it seems to have improved the acceleration we have lost one or two knots off our top speed. I don't think it will have any effect on the trim of your boat.

Maybe someone else on the forum will have an answer for you.

I'm looking to buy a Qicksilver Pilothouse 640 with 115hp Mariner O/B engine. I'd be interested to hear what you think of the boat and whether you'd recommend buying one.
