I need some advice on installing an auxiliary battery.
I want to (must) install an auxiliary battery into my 2005 Quicksilver 580 Pilothouse, for everything electrical except the motor.
The primary battery is located in it's designated compartment at the rear port side, together with the mains charger and isolation switch. There is no room for another battery in there and no specific provision for an auxiliary battery.
Ideally I want to install the auxiliary battery (85AH AGM) in a battery box close to the primary battery, so that the length of heavy duty (4 AWG) cable back to the new Dual Circuit battery isolation switch (for emergency starting) is minimised. Without installing it in the cabin, this limits my options to the deck wells. The port and starboard deck wells are tight for space (especially height) and the centre deck well also stores the fuel tank. My other concern is whether the hull is strong enough to support the concentrated weight of the battery in the deck well. It will of course need to be strapped/secured in place.
If anyone has an auxiliary battery in a Quicksilver boat, or can offer advice on location and installation it would be very much appreciated.
