Out in the Mersey today ,( a 9.3 m tide), and comes to anchor retrieval, I get my son to edge the boat forwards while I use the remote control on the bow. Had 40m of chain out and after 20 m retrieved - pressing switch on remote nothing/dead.. Bit of a panic because they had opened the lock for us and that means lifting a road bridge!! Lock keeper radioing saying people waiting at bridge getting impatient, I came off the bow back into boat then Son eventually found a switch down below and thankfully it worked. My question to the panel is what would cause the tripping of the windlass? TYIA

Very very occasionally the link of the chain can get slightly miss aligned and jam. If the load is great enough it will trip. Once reset usually takes a jag the other direction and back to clear the jam.
should also mention that these things need a wee strip down and looking at every now and then with sometimes an adjustment.

Mike did it trip or was it the remote , it could have my old mini on the end , best keep trying in the marina see how it performs.

yes it was working hard but after sorting the trip it seemed to go slower. BruceK I will check the battery. Also Bigwow does the remote have batteries inside it?

long ago, I had a winch that was nearly blocked from salt deposits.
every time after retrieving the anker, salt water is remaining in the mechanism,
and after drying, the salt particles remains in there,

disassembling, cleaning and greasing cured the problem.
