My recently purchased used boat came with a Quick Genius Ultra windlass installed.

The chain needs replacing, and I'm looking to ensure I get the correct spec.

The gypsy size is 8mm. I understand I need calibrated chain, but am a little confused about what spec to purchase.

Can anyone help shed some light on whether I should be looking at DIN-766, ISO or something else?

Any pointers greatly appreciated :)

Okay great - thanks both. One more Q if you don't mind. I want to go with a chain / rode combo which the gypsy seems to support (I'm replacing all chain). The Quick side says 1/2 inch (12.7mm) rope, and a rope splice manufactured with the "Quick system". Presumably any low profile splice will do, and 13mm 3 strand should work?

Edit - it seems 13mm 3 strand doesn't exist, so I'm left with the choice of 12mm or 14mm. It's difficult to find info on what works, so I've gone 12mm 3 strand nylon. Will report back once I've tried it in case the info is useful to anyone else.

Don't throw all the chain out.

Depending on where/how you anchor you may one day want to secure a shore line to a nasty rock which you know will abrade your line. A decent length of chain in your ground tackle locker would go round the rock saving any abrasion of your mooring line. If you have pole moorings then chain can be similarly useful. If there is enough of the chain left that looks serviceable - you may have the basis of a second rode, should you want to anchor in a 'V' or set up a Bahamian moor..
