Quick topcoat question

I have made a new forehatch with polyester resin and glass, and given it one coat of topcoat, something I have never used before.
I think I would like a second coat, would that be a normal thing to do with topcoat? Sand and paint a second coat on? Or is it usually a once only application?

Found the answer on a pond forum of all places Yes, gave it a sand and another coat and it looks much better. Quite difficult stuff to work with I thought with a brush to get a nice even coat.

I would have thought 3 coats even better - lots of topcoats need thinning before use, as they can be a bit thick and sticky straight out of the tin - don't ask how I know - a bit late to say that, but there is always next time - use either a very good quality soft haired brush or a short nap roller.

I’ll remember that next time I used very cheap brushes, and didnt thin.
Would you thin before or after catalysing?
