quick release connectors for fenders on circa 32mm railing?

Ain't 50 a typo, by chance? I've never seen anything above 40, on 30 stanchions...
Nope. The top handrail tube is actually 60 but I deliberately typed 50 to avoid (unsuccessfully!) a "no way" reaction. The vertical posts are 34 iirc and the mid level horizontal tube (it's not wire) is 30 or 28. It looks and feels awesome- easily the nicest OEM standard spec in this bracket. And gives me another excuse to post this pic of the team, one of whom awesomely still works on the boat full time 6 years later :)

I bought the fast fender hangers and am on the boat to “fit” them.

Sadly they seem to assume that your genders are held on with string not lines as the hole is small and more importantly the gap for the jaws which holds the line is very tight.

So I either have to reduce all Line sizes or stick them in a cupboard

Great idea but to me flawed. My fender lines are entirely normal and the same as the boat next door!

ffs Jeremy,

it's fenders, it's not mooring lines for the SQ58
8mm is plenty enough to keep a fender in place!
just buy a zillionplate multiplate whatever you can find so it's soft and looks good...

I’m with vas. Never had any problem on this. Just buy fender rope that fits the clam cleat. I think that means 10mm rope on the 40 mm fenderhanger, which is fine.

According to their website, the 32mm can be used with lines up to 10mm, and the 40mm up to 14.
Now, I agree with Vas that 8mm is enough from a strength viewpoint, but I can see why you might prefer something larger.
A 14mm line is much nicer to handle than a 10, let alone a 8.
By chance, did you go for the 32mm version of the thing eventually (against jfm advise, heaven forbid :D)?

I did. Grounds for forum suspension I know !

The 32 fit perfectly other than the line.

I emailed the company. They said the 32 was the first one they made ( moulds are expensive) and only first 19. The others are bigger

In an effort to avoid forum suspension I have now bought some washing line ( sorry 10mm line) and will fit in the next few hours

Pouring with rain here!

I’m in your camp (but more of a conformist as I bought the 40mm) I think the hole is indeed a bit small!
They are now in ships stores pending the enthusiasm to restring the fenders.

Bought 8 pairs of 40mm of these, now stuck away in cupboard, unfortunately our rails are particularly curved & these slide up/down, their advice to wrap around an upright doesn't work for me as the fenders would be in the wrong place, additionally found they would slide along the rails if not .... they are brand new, anyone wanting heavily discounted ones PM me :encouragement:

Those guard rail thingys sound like hassle :)

Get a boat without them .Has it’s advantages :encouragement:

The tape is a great idea , it’s woven mesh ,soft , easy to handle for crew with long painted fingernails :)
Clip on crabs make light work , of rendering up and removing them .

Simples !

Credit where it's due, PF.
It takes big balls to suggest that this particular Itama feature, which is a glaring triumph of form over function, has even the slightest practical sense! :D

That sure is double jeopardy.. extra things to trip over and no guard rails to save you. Handsome boat though.

no, it's just evolution of the species...
Only the ones capable of balancing up there, holding nothing will survive on an Itama. Not surprising I can only think of Itama and Baia (sp?) doing that...

They all are put away when out@ sea @ anchor etc .
Because it’s ....
1- easy to unclip them
2- even easier to re clip them in there dedicated places the cavernous anchor locker .

No it’s a pleasant byproduct of sans guard rails you bin fender knots and all that comes with it .
Another one is you can literally take a running jump/ dive off the bow from anywhere. This works in unfamiliar moorings side on and of course @ anchor if you fancy a dip without having to move to the stern .
But the piece d resistance is birds perch and shit on every boat except mine , as we all know they love guard rails or bird perches :)

Of course we or more accurately “ she “ had our reservations about a none guard rails ( or is it bird perch :)) ? .Any at the time of purchase misconceptions have not materialised .
Lack of guard rails in any future boat have dropped off the psyche for us .

Bought a set of Fast Fenders as our Fenders and reasonably large to manage SWMBO struggles with adjusting/tying them on while supporting their weight.

Thanks for the heads up guys one happy SWMBO. I agree with JFM buy the largest size which will take up to 12mm lines.

They are far more sturdy than I envisaged so look to be durable.
