I know this is old hat but I cannot find exactly what I want from an old post or a Google search.

I require to recharge my fridge. The connector is a Schrader valve. I have a screw-on adapter (requires a spanner) from the 134A tube to the Schrader valve BUT the input valve is in such an awkward position that the gas escapes before I can fully unscrew and remove the connector.

A pull back quick release connector would be great or knurled screw-on would be adequate. Anything would be better than the type which needs a spanner.

At the risk of sounding like a smart@ss please, no Health and Safety lectures on the perils of handling refrigerants but any advice would be gratefully received.

I ordered these but they are HUGE

The connectors you have ordered are for 134a aircon systems on cars and are of no use for the boat fridge. Although the boat fridge may (depending on age) be on 134a it will still have the old 1/4 sae fitting that used to be used for R12 aircon (and fridges).

Hoses with knurled fittings are available, such as :

Or, you could fit the hose and an inline valve like this and leave it in place, closing the valve after you have recharged the fridge.

Elf and safety lecture ommited :)

Thanks for this I've ordered the valve and a length of tube. Hopefully, I will be able to attach the valve and a converter to the Schrader valve. If I cannot then I'll attach the 900mm hose to the whole shooting match and leave it on.

I apologize for the H n S remark but sometimes these threads are hi jacked with information that is unhelpful. I just feel that a bit of trust in the common sense of British yachting types in these forums is sometimes lacking. The VAST majority of us know our limitations and it is the technical knowledge and experience that we crave from our colleagues in these columns.

You're welcome. No need to apologise, i knew what you meant and totally agree.

Would a scuba low pressure BC inflator hose fit? If you are not familiar, the flexible low pressure hose fits to the BCD (Buoyancy Control Device) using a quick release schrader valve.

You can get a standard quick fit adapter to fit valve, it's then push fit with side clamp, opens valve as you press together. Standard fridge engineers stuff. Go to you nearest Woolsey Climate Centre or Refrigeration wholesaler they have them on the shelf
