Sorry to ask about this same old subject, but I want to start posting piccies. I think I've sussed how to do it, but just want some advice: From a security point of view, is it safer to put my pics on a webserver such as photobucket before posting, or does it matter if I just upload from my desktop?

Apologies if this has already been covered!

I don't think that there are any security issues.

If you use Photobucket then you can post a large photo (which this server links direct from photob.) but if you upload from your PC (as an attachment) then it will only be a thumbnail on which peeps have to click. This will not be a direct link to your PC.

Depends what you call safe. With photobucket you have the option to password protect your pics, if you do this they can't be browsed by others. If you don't, then the source can be accessed and anyone can browse them. If you don't mind that, then fair enough.

Someone got upset with me because I posted another of his pics back to him in his thread, no malice was intended, but he didn't realise that his photobucket was accessible to all. He does now!

Worth taking a bit of time to suss out how to create different sub albums in Photobucket how to make them public or private and how to give the the private ones passwords so that they can be viewed by selected persons.

I don't think you can make individual pictures private just the whole sub album

Even if you post a picture from a private album anyone can access it, copy its URL and post a link to it Or copy the picture for their own purposes but what they cannot do is access other pictures in the album.

Also figure discover how to post pictures as clickable thumbnails. Useful if posting many pictures in the same post and also to post thumnail links to larger sized pictures tha will fit the forum page

Useful basic photeditor available too.
