the waterproofing following standards;-
IP65; IP66; IP67; IP68

We see these designations in catalogues, but what do they exactly mean??

An additional useless bit of information:

IP stands for Institute of Petroleum (now Institute of Energy) who developed the standards.

Not to be confused with IP-xx (note the hyphen) test procedures which cover all sorts of chemical and other petroleum related tests.
 
IP is actually Ingress Protection developed by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC), and is used for all types of electrical equipment.
