Had to pay some duty when I ordered some bits from West Marine a while ago - OK, fair enough.

But what's the story if I get some bits from the EU?

There's some electrical parts I need which I can source from Germany. Will I be up for any extra duty etc charges when they arrive in the UK?

Thanks

P

It may depend on where you are and the level of knowledge of the vendor. I live in Belgium and my wife and I regularly buy over the web from wherever the product is available at the VAT rate applicable in the country from which the goods are delivered.

On the other hand, rightly or otherwise, I recently got a rebate on my boat insurance when the insurance company realised that my Irish registered boat (small craft register) was located in the Netherlands rather than Ireland where the VAT rate is higher.

If you can compare prices online so much the better.

Sorry I can't be more helpful,

Frank

If it is within the EU no duty or extra VAT to pay if you are a private individual. If you import from outside the EU, duty and VAT is payable, although not always collected with lowish value items.
